Tonight we will be doing a live stream with all of our vendors for the piercing the veil Psychic fair on the 6th(Saturday) around 8:30pm, well all who can make it tonight, to give everyone a little introduction to our vendors 😀 They will also have their contact info onscreen and we will be broadcasting on both Des Moines New Age Shop’s  facebook & Youtube, Tech willing 😀

At 8pm ish, we will be sitting down with Welso, a young norse paganism, we will be discussing his journey and what brought him to this path and inspired him to found his own Kindred- a clan or family like group of norse pagans- it is known as the Shining Ram Kindred.

Below is a short precursor to get to know abit better.

Tell me a little bit about what you do.

So, to begin with, regularly, I am an electrician. 

Now, on the Pagan side, I practice Norse Paganism. 

How long have you been practicing Norse Paganism?

I have been practicing Norse Paganism for the last 3 years.

How long has your group been actively and actively open for guidance to the public?

My kindred, Shining Ram, was formed in June of 2023, so we are a new one.

When we formed, we agreed to be open to anyone willing and able to put the work to learn about and form and build relationships with our brothers and sisters, and more importantly, form and build relationships with the gods.

What type of Norse paganism do you specialize in?

The type of Norse Paganism that I specialize in, along with the kindred, would be Tyrism, as Tyr is our main God, and we have a close following of Heimdal.

What drew you to  Norse paganism originally, and tell me a little about your journey with it?

I was drawn to Norse Paganism after I started digging into my history, and finding out that in being born in Russia, the Kievian Rus founded Russia, and they were essentially Russian Vikings that came from the Scandinavian region.

What inspired you to start your group?

The thing that inspired me to start my kindred was that we wanted to have our holidays and rituals with like-minded people, along with being able to expand our own knowledge with the help of our siblings.

what are your goals when you begin to work with a person seeking this path?

My goals when beginning to work with a person seeking this path would be for them to unlearn the mainstream knowledge that is out there, i.e. the way that the  Marvel universe portrays our culture, and really dig into and understand how we lived. Another thing would be that being a Heathen isn’t a bad thing and instead something that we should be proud of.

Can you give a brief example of what a starting question and answer session with your group would be like?

A starting question that I would ask a group while starting out would be about the knowledge that people have on it. Depending on the response that I get, I would go into either the Hávamál or the Volúspá, or into things like the Rígsthula and Heimdallagar or the Lokisanna

– optional, this i put in to give people a barometer of how to conduct themselves when they meet you-

Any fun seeker stories and any seeker horror stories?

Now, lastly, when dealing with me, I would say that I am extremely laid back. I am an extremely blunt person, although I can see the room for what it is, and understand that people have different comfortability levels. 

At the same time, just be yourself, and don’t worry about offending me, because that very rarely happens.

 For fun, I go hiking, and longboarding. I used to go to Colorado a bunch just to go longboard for a couple hours, and on one of these excursions, I was flying down a mountain at around 45-50 mph. I was using a nice sliding board because of all of the switch backs, and was having a fantastic time. 

Well, that is until a particle of dust got under my wheel, and instead of sliding around the turn, I was rather flying off the mountain until a tree saw me and decided to catch me as gently as a tree could catch a person flying at them at 50 mph. 

With a couple cracked ribs and a fair share of colorful words, I spent the next 6 hours looking for my board in which I found.

On a more metaphysical side of stories, there was one time that my friends and I were going out of our way to look for something to get ourselves into. 

This, as we know, tends to be a good yet bad way to stumble across some things that we didn’t realize that we needed to see, or just flat out didn’t need to see. 

When we got to the cemetary, my friends looked at me and just assumed that my backpack was full of metaphysical gadgets, which I couldn’t deny that I had. 

I would carry around a variety of herbs, a couple pendulums, couple tarot decks, and I even had my Ouija board with me that night. 

It was an extremely calm night, nearly a full moon, and a clear sky. So I started off simple, made a simple energy grid with some of my stones, lit a candle, and did a simple 3 card tarot pull, which essentially told me that I should try to talk to them in other ways. At this point in time, I was pretty good with tarot readings and pretty good with my pendulums, but I was fairly new to ouija, and didn’t really care about the consequences. 

I pulled a pendulum out and ended up pulling the board out. During this time, though, my friends ended up wandering off, and had apparently left the cemetary, so I was alone with a portal open and my ouija board out. 

I can’t remember a whole lot that happened after that, except that after I asked the couple questions that I did, a gust of wind blew out the candles and my board flew away from me. 

I ended up having to board home that night, a journey that would have only normally taken me about an hour, ended up taking me 6 hours going the exact same way that I had gone countless times. This  is something that I haven’t been able to explain, either, and no matter how much I think about it, it just doesn’t make sense.
